West Virginia Advances Class VI Permit Application for Tri-State CCS Hub in Marshall County

January 15, 2026

We’re pleased to share a significant milestone for the Tri-State CCS Hub: the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has determined that our Class VI permit application for the Marshall County portion of the project is administratively complete.

This determination officially advances the project into the next phase of the Class VI permitting process, during which the EPA will conduct a detailed technical and environmental review to ensure the proposed well sites meet all requirements for the safe, long-term storage of carbon dioxide.

This milestone reflects years of subsurface analysis, environmental study and ongoing collaboration with the community. It further strengthens Marshall County’s role in advancing innovative energy and carbon management solutions across the region.

With this approval, Marshall County becomes the latest area within the Tri-State CCS Hub to reach this critical permitting benchmark, along with our Class VI applications for Carroll County, Ohio, and Hancock County, West Virginia.

We will continue to provide updates as the review process moves forward.

We welcome your questions, feedback and ideas. Your input helps guide this project every step of the way.
